Poultry Equipment Installation Costs Buyers Often Miss

Shouhui Poultry Equipment · Editorial guide · Updated

The containers have arrived, but the equipment is not ready to run. It still needs to be unloaded, checked, assembled, connected and tested. If the quotation only says “installation included,” there may be a substantial gap between what the buyer expects and what the supplier has priced.

Before the order is signed, ask one direct question: who provides the people, equipment and materials needed for each task from the truck to handover?

Unloading is a job, not a delivery detail

Agree who books the unloading equipment and who checks that its capacity and reach suit the packed items. Confirm the access route, turning space, ground conditions and storage area with the carrier and installer. A lifting arrangement must be planned by people qualified for that work; a container count is not a lifting plan.

Someone also needs to reconcile the delivered packages against the packing list and record damage or shortages through the agreed process. Decide who does this before packages are spread around the site. Store components as directed so that weather, damp packaging or construction work does not damage them while they wait.

An installation engineer is not necessarily an assembly crew

Some offers provide a supervisor while the buyer supplies local labour. Others include a team for defined assembly work. Ask how many people are supplied, which skills are required locally and what work is outside the team's remit.

Record responsibility for travel, entry requirements, accommodation, local transport, tools and interpreters where needed. Agree how a delay is handled if the building or utilities are not ready when the team arrives. These are project-specific costs; a standard daily rate borrowed from another country will not settle them.

One quotation in our equipment records makes the division quite explicit: installation is included, but cables outside the electrical cabinet are for the buyer to provide. The buyer also supplies the listed site tools, power at the front and rear of the house, and the installers' meals and accommodation. Those conditions belong to that quotation, not every order. They show why “installation included” still needs a task list underneath it.

Put a line on the drawing at every handover point

  • Electrical: identify the supply point and responsibility for distribution, cables, protection, earthing, motor connections and control testing.
  • Water: identify the incoming connection, storage, treatment, filtration and piping responsibilities.
  • Feed: show the boundary between storage, transfer and distribution inside the house.
  • Eggs: show where the supplied conveyor ends and where grading, packing or manual handling begins.
  • Manure: mark the outside discharge position and the equipment or storage arrangement that receives it.

Have the relevant contractor confirm each interface. The equipment supplier, electrician and builder should not each assume that the same missing connection belongs to someone else.

Commissioning needs time, utilities and a definition of done

An assembled machine still needs the checks and tests specified for the installation. Allow for the required electricity, water, test materials and people. Agree which tests take place before birds arrive, what is recorded and who can accept the work.

If a conveyor stops or a water connection leaks during the test, use an issue list with an owner, corrective action and retest result. Equipment that is present but not ready for its intended operation should not disappear from the list merely because the installation visit is ending.

A site-readiness check can prevent avoidable waiting

Before confirming travel or delivery dates, compare the actual site with the latest installation drawing. Check floor and foundation completion, working clearances, secure storage, power and water availability, and contractor access. Ask the installation lead to identify anything that would prevent work from starting.

Do not assume extra days are free, or that every delay is chargeable. Agree the conditions and responsibilities in the order so a late building handover does not turn into an argument at the site gate.

How to put these costs into the budget

For every task, record five things: who performs it, who pays, the price basis, the site condition it depends on and the evidence of completion. A task can be excluded from the equipment price and still be essential to the project.

Return unresolved lines for clarification using the quotation checklist. For a proposed layer cage installation, send the house drawing and photos of the current building stage with your project enquiry. They help define the work much more clearly than a bird number alone.
